MeeVee Video Top 5: All-American TV -- Idol, Colbert, This American Life
In its youth, America glorified its traditional values. A solid family was the cornerstone of every good person. Such words as loyalty, dignity, and honor were associated with achievement. Boy, have times changed! American television has become a scary depiction of our separation from those traditional values. Loyalty will not help you become winner of Survivor, and dignity surely won't win you first place on Fear Factor. Today, the only things we honor are our TiVo and our HDTV.
Okay, so maybe TV draws us even further from those original values that have become so blurry. The compromise, however, is a wealth of diverse programming. Where else can you watch someone solve a murder, eat a cow's brain, and sing covers of an Aretha Franklin song from the comfortable setting of your couch? What makes American television so grand is not the values (or lack thereof) it gives us, but rather the endless amounts of suspense, laughter, and thrills it provides us each and every day.
This week, MeeVee's Video Top 5 features five great American shows: American Idol, The Colbert Report, The Great American Dream Vote, This American Life, and American Dad.
Full episodes of This American Life
With almost 15 years of success on the radio, This American Life has made the switch to television. All of the stories are funny, unscripted, and most surprisingly, true. Follow such compelling people as a politician trying to win a campaign without telling a single lie, and a boy who decides he will never, ever fall in love.
American Dad inside look
Take a look inside the studio of American Dad during the cast's first table read. This family is about as dysfunctional as The Simpsons and the Griffin family combined. With all the time creator Seth MacFarlane spends with FOX, when does he sleep?
Endless Idol clips
Here you'll find enough video clips to satisfy even the most diehard Idol fanatic. Although, with Idol being aired up to three times a week, do we really need more Idol coverage? Too bad there aren't any clips of Simon ridiculing Paula as she's popping back a bunch of pills.
The Great American Dream Vote
This new show premieres Tuesday at 10. Go online to vote for your favorite contestants, and give them the chance of a lifetime. We wonder if anyone will vote for Donny Osmond, and give him his dream of resurrecting his career.
Stephen, Willie, and Holbrooke trio
Join the random trio of Stephen Colbert, Willie Nelson, and Ambassador Richard Holbrooke in their rendition of "On the Road Again." Do you smell a little "Mary Jane" in the air? Nothing like a little hooch to bring people together.

Donny's career is going very well thanks very much. His new CD went straight to no.7 in the UK album charts...he has a sell out tour coming up in October and has a long list of tv and radio appearances in the coming weeks and months. Don't really think he needs to resurrect anything..by the way...who are you again?
