Second Try At A Muslims-Out-Of-Water Sitcom?
Just a couple of weeks after the unveiling of a CW schedule without "Aliens in America," Fox studios has bought the rights to make a U.S. version of "Little Mosque on the Prairie," the Canadian sitcom that some people thought was ripped off by inspired "Aliens." "Aliens," in fact, turned out to be a funny, original and surprisingly sweet little show documenting the high school adjustment difficulties of Wisconsin nerd Justin Tolchuck and his Pakistani exchange student pal Raja, well-played by Dan Byrd and Adhir Kalyan (pictured). "Little Mosque" is a comedy following the problems of a small Muslim community in a rural hamlet. Hard to say whether the ratings problems for "Aliens" came about because of the subject matter, or simply because it was a CW show in a season disrupted by the writers strike. It was probably the season's least welcome cancellation. But that doesn't change the fact that "Little Mosque" faces an uphill climb with viewers.
