More Emmy Semis Revealed
Last week the TV Academy revealed the semifinalists in the best comedy and best drama Emmy categories. And they swore that was all they were going to reveal. Because, you know, the Emmys are sacred, like chosing a Pope or something. Sigh. But the L.A. Times' "Gold Derby" blog is devoting itself to ferreting out the semifinalists in the acting categories as well. According to Gold Derby:
Best actress in a drama semifinalists are: (My notes in italic, predicted nominees in bold):
- Christina Applegate, "Samantha Who?" - Hollywood loves her. Eh.
- Marcia Cross, "Desperate Housewives" DH is so over. And its votes are split.
- America Ferrera, "Ugly Betty" - Of course.
- Tina Fey, "30 Rock" - Do they give Emmys to girls with glasses?
- Anna Friel, "Pushing Daisies" - A "Daisies" comedy sweep could power her.
- Felicity Huffman, "Desperate Housewives" - See Marcia Cross.
- Eva Longoria Parker, "Desperate Housewives"- See Marcia Cross.
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "New Adventures of Old Christine" - A nomination, not a win.
- Mary-Louise Parker, "Weeds"- My vote is for her.
- Sarah Silverman, "The Sarah Silverman Program" - My sick, twisted alter ego votes for her.
Two more categories after the jump...
Best supporting actor in a drama finalists are:
- Naveen Andrews, "Lost" - Yes!
- Bruce Dern, "Big Love" - Scary.
- Christian Clemenson, "Boston Legal" - Who, now?
- Ted Danson, "Damages" - A nod for "Damages."
- Michael Emerson, "Lost" - Awesomely evil. If he's not a nominee, the Emmys are a sham.
- Zeljko Ivanek, "Damages" - Danson gets it.
- T.R. Knight, "Grey's Anatomy" - See Sandra Oh.
- William Shatner, "Boston Legal" ("Mad About You") - He is amusing.
- John Slattery, "Mad Men" - I would have chosen Pete Kartheiser. But Slattery was good too.
- Blair Underwood, "In Treatment" ("Alex: Week 6") - My second-favorite patient.
- Jake Weber, "Medium" ("Wicked Game, Part 1") - "Medium?" For an Emmy? really?
Best supporting actress in a drama semifinalists are:
- Jane Alexander, "Tell Me You Love Me" - Emmy voters are the only ones who watched.
- Candice Bergen, "Boston Legal" - Again? Really?
- Rose Byrne, "Damages" - Deserving for her battered ingenue role, but - who?
- Jill Clayburgh, "Dirty Sexy Money" - They'll give her a nomination just for playing.
- Sharon Gless, "Burn Notice" - Another wacky mom role, like "Queer As Folk."
- Rachel Griffiths, "Brothers and Sisters" - A shoo-in, though the show is just a P.C. soap.
- Christina Hendricks, "Mad Men" - The sexy queen bee of the secretaries.
- S. Epatha Merkerson, "Law and Order" - Has an Emmy, but not for this. Kinda late, though.
- Sandra Oh, "Grey's Anatomy" ("The Becoming") - We're all sick of 'Grey's,' aren't we?
- Dianne Wiest, "In Treatment" - A shoo-in as nominee, and she deserves it.
- Chandra Wilson, "Grey's Anatomy" - See Sandra Oh.
